The Interactive Theatre Project (ITP)
The Interactive
Theatre Project provides professionally scripted and improvisational
performances addressing difficult issues that impact our community.
These creative forums are designed to engage community, faculty, staff
and students, about social justice. The performance becomes a
springboard for dialogue among the audience characters, and
facilitators. This conversation often allows groups to explore
difficult, complex issues and contributes to greater community
strength, creativity and competence.
The Troupe
The Interactive Theatre troupe is comprised of 14
paid student-actors from the University of Colorado at Boulder. The
troupe is under the direction of CU-Boulder staff members Rebecca Brown
Adelman and Trent Norman. Founded in the spring of 1999, the
Interactive Theatre Project is an initiative of the Building Community
Campaign at the University of Colorado in Boulder. It is funded by
Wardenburg Health Center, Housing and Dining Services, and the Vice
Chancellor for Student Affairs.
How Interactive Theatre Works
- Participants can experience empathy for and
identification with those involved in the performed scenario.
- Participants can think through what actually happened in the
scenario.
- Participants can think about possible consequences of the
performed scenario.
- It gives participants the ability to discuss possible solutions
and potential strategies for change
Our Goals
- To provide forums for participants to discuss difficult issues.
- Provide means to explore becoming a better, more effective ally
for target groups.
- Raise awareness about diversity issues.
- Open doors for collaboration, discussion and problem solving
between students, faculty and staff.
- Give voice and visibility to marginalized groups on college and
university campuses.
- Introduce theatre as a medium for education and social change.
